Councillor update June 2024
Meetings are off at the council for a month and the general election is done. The Green vote share quadrupled nationally and we got 4 MPs. Thank you to everyone who voted Green, our best ever result in East Kilbride! We will keep working for you every day and encourage those in charge to be bolder and more creative to tackle the many challenges we face. Scottish Greens select Ann McGuinness as snap election candidate
The Scottish Greens have announced that Ann McGuinness will stand for the East Kilbride and Strathaven constituency with a call for the local community to ‘vote like our future depends on it’ Ann McGuinness will be one of a record number of Scottish Greens candidates at this election, giving the majority of people across Scotland the opportunity to vote for a fairer, greener, independent Scotland. Her lived experience and knowledge of poverty and disability, both issues often under-represented and misrepresented in our politics, will be invaluable in speaking up for many people in the constituency. East Kilbride East action Parking & transport: My inbox is full of complaints about pavement parking in all parts of the ward. Parking on pavements, double parking and parking at dropped kerbs for pedestrians / cycle use will be banned from December 11th as it obstructs pavements and makes getting about harder for everyone who walks or wheels, even pushing people onto dangerous roads. It’s Our Place, so let’s make Our Plan
Over the next year, our communities have an amazing opportunity to improve our area for the future by preparing a Local Place Plan choosing projects that local people want to see happen. The council and other agencies must take Local Place Plans into account when they develop land and services. This is our chance to do as other communities across Scotland have done and develop community-led plans that help address poverty, improve local greenspaces, tackle transport issues and more.
