South Lanarkshire Council Passes Divestment Motion
Today, Wednesday 28th September 2022, Cllr Kirsten Robb (Scottish Green Party, East Kilbride East), presented a motion to the full council calling for South Lanarkshire’s money to be invested for positive change and not contribute to the climate and ecological crises (the full text of the motion can be found here). The motion, which was supported by the majority of councillors, asked the council to write to Strathclyde Pension Fund calling on it to divest from fossil fuels as soon as possible and for the council to develop a Responsible Investment Policy of its own. Green MSP Gillian Mackay takes Space to Play Campaign to Parliament
A South Lanarkshire campaign group is calling on the Council to recognise the importance of play for children’s’ wellbeing and to take action to improve play opportunities in local communities. The Space to Play campaign is asking South Lanarkshire Council to prepare a play strategy, to open up Multi Use Games Areas (MUGA) out-with school hours and to renew all local play parks. The group has been backed by Scottish Greens MSP Gillian Mackay who recently raised a motion in parliament. Scottish Greens free bus travel to commence in new year
In a deal secured by the Scottish Greens in this year’s budget, anyone aged 21 or younger will be able to travel for free on the bus with a concessionary travel card from 31 January 2022.
