Laura Moodie
Laura will be the No 1 list candidate for the Scottish Greens in the 2021 Scottish Parliamentary election for South Scotland.
She lives in Borgue, near Kirkcudbright, with her four children, husband and several chickens. She works as an administrator for a charity and has been a community activist and organiser since her twenties.
Born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, Laura chose to make Scotland her home after coming to study history at Edinburgh University, and has previously worked in technical publishing and in broadcast television as a subtitler. Laura is a trustee of three charities: Massive Outpouring of Love, which supports displace people and refugees, Kirkcudbright Skatepark and Borgue Public Hall.
Laura has earned a reputation as a formidable campaigner and hard-working community organiser. She has led successful campaigns to halt cuts to rural bus services and pushed Dumfries and Galloway council to adopt one of the most ambitious Climate Emergency declarations in the country.
Laura will campaign for investment across South Scotland that has the potential to transform people’s lives, such as: reopening train stations and rail lines; warmer homes to reduce fuel poverty; and new jobs that will make the most of the area’s renewable energy potential through the Green New Deal.
